Succession for advisors
With the average age of the population increasing, there are also more senior advisors than ever before. Those in the financial services industry need to consider their succession plan. While the focus of this article is on senior advisors, it actually applies to any advisor, as you never know when a tragedy may hit and you’ll need a ready-to-go plan to execute.

Why insurers must improve range of digital tools
Insurers and distribution firms need to up their game after a survey revealed more than a quarter of advisors thought their digital tools were out of date. The LIMRA research, however, showed that advisors are incorporating digital tools in all aspects of their business, from communicating with current clients to prospecting and marketing. Almost 8 in 10 advisors see digital solutions as the most helpful for marketing and client acquisition (46%), and ongoing client engagement (31%).

OBSI releases report on complaints made by seniors
Older Canadians experience different challenges with financial services than younger Canadians, observes the Ombudsman for Banking Services and Investments’ (OBSI), which released its first ever report on seniors’ complaints July 18. OBSI collected demographic and case data for 2017 and 2018 to create the report, which used the age of 60 as the threshold age of a senior. The study showed that 38% of complaints to OBSI came from people over the age of 60.

Equifax to pay at least $575 million as part of FTC settlement
Equifax has agreed to pay at least $575 million to the US Federal Trade Commission, the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau and all 50 states over its massive 2017 data breach. If that isn’t enough to compensate people impacted by the breach, the credit reporting company could have to pay up to $700 million — a figure we got hints about on Friday.
