On February 18, 2014, Bill 157, the Financial Advisors Act, 2014, was introduced in the Ontario legislature. Bill 157 focuses on protecting the consumer by governing all financial advisors regardless of the products they sell.
Advocis worked for some time on a proposal to “raise the professional bar,” and in February of 2013 we released our position paper on the concept of professionalizing financial advice. Since then we have been advocating for our Professions Model with the Ontario government.
