Tech Tips | Windows 10: Should you upgrade?

By now you’ve probably heard something about Windows 10 coming out soon and that it’s free. Some of you may have also noticed the little Windows icon is your taskbar and even clicked it to reserve your copy of Windows 10. The question now is should you upgrade to Windows 10 when it’s released on July 28th, 2015? The quick answer is not right away.

Reasons to hold off on upgrading to Windows 10:

  • There will be hundreds of bug fixes over the first few months after Windows 10 is released. These bugs could impede your ability to get work done on your computer.
  • The financial planning industry still relies on legacy software (Illustration software) and, while I’m confident that everything will work normally, I can’t guarantee it.
  • The same goes for Microsoft Internet Explorer. Many of your day-to-day activities rely on its compatibility with the industry sites you visit. We need to make sure that compatibility still exists in Windows 10. Again, I’m confident it will but not 100% sure.

Here’s what I think you should do:

  • Don’t install the Windows 10 upgrade just yet. If you’re in the market for a new computer try to hold off until the fall.
  • Let me install Windows 10 and live it with for a few months to check compatibility.
  • Wait to hear from me in September (Fall General Meeting) or October (Living Benefits Symposium) to let you know how my testing went.

I honestly don’t foresee any compatibility issues with Windows 10 but you never know. Let’s play it safe.

  • Mr.Pike thank you for you Windows 10 advise. I am waiting to purchase Micro Soft Surface Pro 4 when ever it comes out next so I hope and fore sure Windows 10 Bugs will all be sorted out.

Also, is there a link or App I can use which you can send to me to connect me to Winfund so I can use it on my iPhone 5. I already have this program on my computer and use it weekly but was wondering if it is viewable and workable in iPhone 5? This way no matter where I am I can view the activities of my clients funds any time and at any place because I always have my cell phone with me.
