Tech Tips | Device Picks (July 2015)

Whether you’re in the market for a new computer right now or in the near future we’ve got you covered. In the first of a series of monthly posts I’ll be listing a few of my favourite computers that I recommend for purchase from the Microsoft Store. Why the Microsoft Store? Because they are the only ones who offer Microsoft Signature Edition computers. Lastly, you’ll notice that I primarily focus on laptops not desktops. This is because the price difference is negligible and the portability and flexibility of a laptop far outweigh any benefit of a desktop.

Mid-Range Laptops

In this section you’ll find laptops that are fast, powerful and priced economically. If you’re looking for thin and light, it’s not here but these machines will get the job done.

  • Dell Inspiron 15 – $499
    • 15.6 inch screen, Intel Core i5, 8 GB RAM, 1 TB Hard drive, 5.32 lbs.
  • Acer Aspire V5 – $599
    • 14 inch screen, Intel Core i5, 4 GB RAM, 500 GB Hard drive, 4.41 lbs.

The biggest difference between these two laptops is the screen size and weight. The Acer is roughly 1 pound lighter because the screen is 1.6 inches smaller.

High-End Laptops

In this section you’ll find laptops that are fast, powerful and, in most cases, very light. These machine are a pleasure to travel with and geared towards the road warrior.

* If you’re interested in a Surface Pro 3 you’ll also need a Surface Pro Type Cover. They cost $159.99 and, in my opinion, are required. Don’t forget to check out the colour options available.

As always, if you have any questions please contact me.
