Tech Tips | Microsoft Surface Pro 3 Value Bundle

August 20th, 2015 Update: Microsoft is expected to announce the Surface Pro 4 at an event in October. You may want to consider waiting.

As most of you know I use a Microsoft Surface Pro 3 as my daily driver and I highly recommend it. Here’s what turns me on about the Surface Pro 3 and why I think you’ll love it too:

  • Unbelievably thin measuring 0.36 inches in width.
  • It only weighs 1.76 lbs (2.4 lbs with keyboard cover).
  • 9 hour battery life.
  • It’s fast. Insanely fast. You’ll be surprised. Seriously, it’s fast.

The only potential issue I see with this device is the screen size. It’s only 12 inches. Now, this isn’t a big deal for me because I like the size and when I’m at my desk I hook it up to an external monitor. But it’s something to be aware of before you make the purchase.

Let’s get to the point already. The Microsoft Store is having a sale right now on the Surface Pro 3 that includes a few key extras at a discounted rate:

  • 1 year subscription to Office 365 Personal (1 install) or Home (5 installs)
  • 1 free sleeve
  • Surface Pro Type Cover (This is a must if you’re buying a Surface)
  • 2 year service plan

I recommend either of these Surface Pro 3 models:

  • 128 GB / Intel Core i5 or
  • 256 GB / Intel Core i5

  • Hi Craig: suggest you check Ellen Roseman’s column in the Aug. 18/15 Business section of the Toronto Star. “flaws in Microsoft’S tablet exchange plan “. Less than flattering.

    • Thanks for the comment, Leslie. Here’s the link to the article you’re referencing.

I would take the opinions in this article with a grain of salt. That being said, feel free to take my opinions with a grain of salt as well. There seems to be a lot of miscommunication happening for the 2 examples in the article. My experiences, and there have been many, with the Microsoft Store have been nothing short of amazing. In fact, I was just there (Mississauga, Square One) a few weeks ago regarding a problem with my Surface Pro 3 and Windows 10. While I did not purchase the extended warranty with my Surface, the store still supported me and charged me nothing when all was said and done.

My perception of the Microsoft Store is that they seem to be willing to go above and beyond even to the point of getting management involved in order to break the fine print in any contract in order to help the customer. I’m not alone either. Many advisors who I’ve recommended to go to the Microsoft Store to purchase a new computer or get support have reported back with high praise and very positive experiences.

It’s an interesting article and Ellen Roseman (Author) provides good advice to readers. I can only respond with my experiences and what others have told me. This article does not change my opinion of the Microsoft Store as I believe these were isolated incidents based around a lot of miscommunication on both sides.
