La Capitale | New for Spring 2014

This Bulletin gives you an overview of La Capitale’s new products and product updates for the spring of 2014.

As of today, your Strategis illustration software will be automatically updated when it is launched. You can also download version 7.9.0 or higher of the software. Simply follow the instructions below or look for the update message on your computer screen.

New – La Capitale client promotion

Good news! If your clients already hold a contract with La Capitale (individual, group or general insurance) and they take out a new individual insurance contract with a minimum annual premium of $500, they can get a $50 premium refund. The premium refund will be doubled to $100 for Quebec public service employees.

New products and product updates

Fixed term life insurance

To become more competitive, premiums for certain terms were revised and adjusted:

• Fixed term products: 20, 25 and 30 years
• Fixed term riders 20, 25 and 30 years

Decreasing term life insurance (15, 20, 25, 30 and 35 years)

This product line was modified to make us more competitive and position us better in the market.

• The premiums were adjusted.
• The decreasing insured amount is limited to 50% of the initial amount.
• At the end of the initial period chosen, the contract will be renewed for subsequent 10-year periods (FT10). The insured amount will then equal 50% of the initial amount.
• The maximum age at issue was increased by five years.

Disability Income Benefit

The maximum age at issue was increased. Disability Income Benefit is now offered from age 18 to 60.

If clients ask for a disability income benefit exceeding $2,000, the income replacement rule shall apply.

Universal Life Insurance, Life Saver

The Meritage Portfolios managed by National Bank Securities are now offered with all universal life insurance Life Saver contracts, even the ones in force. These portfolios come with a proven track record and provide a full range of investment products designed for every type of investor profile plus peace of mind for your clients.

It is now also possible for a company to be the policyholder of a universal life insurance contract.

Long Term Care Insurance

• Option 20, which allowed for the payment of premiums over a 20-year period, is no longer available.

Commission

First-year commissions were increased on the following products:

• Renewable and convertible fixed term life insurance (as coverage or as a rider)
• Renewable and convertible decreasing term life insurance
• Disability Income Benefit, for people age 18 to 55.
• Fixed Term Critical Illness rider
• Children’s Life or Critical Illness rider
• The Provider Monthly Payment Term Life Insurance (as coverage or as a rider).

For Universal Life Insurance Life Saver, there will be a commission increase applied to new contracts on excess premiums for years 2 to 10.

For all our products, first-year commissions are now payable on a premium based on the annual payment method. We wish to remind you that we pay lifetime renewals on most of our products.

Rates in effect

The rates will be in effect as of April 1, 2014 when our illustration software is updated. Please note that any application signed before April 1 and received before April 15, 2014 will be approved based on the previous rates.

Notice – Change to the Commissions Schedule

Please be advised that the Commissions Schedule has been modified. Please go to La Capitale’s extranet site to access the new version.

Applications

The Life and Critical Illness (T072) and Long Term Care (T119) applications have been updated. Please use the new versions exclusively. You can order them from your general agent. You can also find them in the La Capitale Sales Documentation section of our product illustration software.
